Welcome to Kurt for Congress 2010!

>ANNOUNCEMENT<

CAMPAIGN SUSPENDED

It is with sincere disappointment that I announce suspension of my campaign.  Evidently it is very difficult to squeeze 5 months of work into 3.5 weeks.  The clock was not on my side to satisfy requirements of a Go-NoGo primary filing deadline on 09 April 2010.

Despite this unfortunate outcome, substantial efforts were made to have the campaign be a positive reflection of issues important to the voters of Virginia's 11th Congressional District, albeit over a very short period of time.  The opportunity to have met so many people, inject my perspectives into the dialogue, hear constituents' stories and feel the growing support for my positions was encouraging.  The welcome feeling of the party leadership and faithful for a newcomer, the opportunity to speak at district events, and the challenge of establishing clear, concise positions on tough issues was an experience I will not forget, and look forward to as future opportunities present themselves... I don't make the same mistakes twice.

I will continue to participate in 11th District activities and enthusiastically support a desirable outcome in November for Virginia and America.  Please people - we need to put the brakes on spending!

First I must thank my family, friends and backers for their unwavering support, patience and tolerance for my endeavors.

I also need to thank the other candidates.  They were accepting of my participation and I feel honored to have sat at the table with them.  They are true professionals.

Lastly I must thank several people in particular for their direct support of the campaign:

Jennifer Hosso - the workhorse and self-proclaimed social director

Bruce Benson - for his valiant efforts to get last-minute petitions

Bill Zink and Hassan for their efforts in the lion's den of Fairfax

Matt Harrison for being the first donor to the campaign

Mark Plotkin of WTOP for butchering my name...(he wasn't the only one)

Chris S. at Springwoods Elementary for the great Lincoln-esque speech he wrote about me

There are many others, and they know who they are.  Thank you - I could not have gotten this close without you.

Although I am not still in the running I have much to add.  I will continue to offer observations and insights on the website, Facebook and Twitter, and look forward to an exciting election season here in the 11th District of Virginia!

Always remember - when you see a pitch coming you like, swing for the fences...

Kurt

My name is Kurt Riesenberg. I am competing to be your Congressman for the 11th District of Virginia. I am not a politician. I am a successful professional, a husband and a father. I am jumping into the Republican primary race at the 11th hour. I have at least two immediate competitors that are both better funded and recognized – neither of which are qualifiers for the position. I have an eventual competitor in November that is a seasoned politician and bureaucrat, and benefits from the advantageous position of incumbency. But I still think I am going to win.

I have an unceasing need to look at the complex things that impact me, my family and those around me. To look at the different things that come together and eventually make sense. To find the common thread and connect the dots. To take everything into consideration and try my best to make fair and relevant sense out of it while applying conservative principles.  That isn't something that comes and goes.

I suggest that this same drive is the x-factor that defines the difference between an effective and ineffective leader in government. Not a drive to be powerful. Not a drive to satisfy my own needs for acclamation or whatever it is that motivates many of the malcontents we now have in Washington.

I might not be able to get as many yard signs printed, or bumper stickers, or robo-calls as my competitors. But I do have some things on my side that no one else in this race has – no political baggage, no I-O-Us, and no predetermined axes to grind as soon as I get in office that could perpetuate inaction. I have an approach to consensus-building that stems from over a decade in non-profit/professional association executive leadership, and a desire to truly see practical, common sense government that every citizen can understand and participate in.  In short, I possess reason and plan to apply it.

Things are a mess.  Come along with me in my desire to find an answer, and let’s get to work on fixing things...

Step 1:  Click on the white box to the left and sign up for email updates!  Let me keep you informed on the campaign and the issues.

Step 2:  Forward the address for this website to your friends and family so they can get another perspective on the issues!

Step 3:  Visit the Issues pages and see what I think.

Step 4:  Please consider donating or volunteering.  Even the VA State Board of Election filing fees are $3480.00 just to get on the ballot.  And we need some help getting the word out on the campaign which means meet & greets, signs, etc.  We are keeping resource consumption to a minimum but even nominal printing consumes funding.  Anything you can send helps.  No amount is too small!
